How to do 360 evaluations right

When feedback is tied to whether or not someone is getting a raise, they’re more likely to feel defensive or deny what others said.
Second, view the 360 evaluation document as a rubric for growth. Don’t make the mistake of conducting a 360 once a year and neglecting the document after. Don’t shield senior leaders from honest feedback or recommendations for improvement. What not to do
As mentioned, 360 evaluations are only as effective as their design and administration.
Be on the lookout for these errors:
- Using generalized forms that don’t map to the job at hand
- Using it as the sole source of truth for employee performance reviews
- Adjusting confidentiality of responses during or after evaluation
- Forgoing a formal, sit-down meeting to go over results with the employee
- Viewing it as only a time-stamped snapshot and not a holistic component of an employee’s long-term trajectory and tenure with the company
- Focusing only on hard or technical skills, at the expense of soft skills or critical indicators like communication style and behavioral fit within the team.
